PERFORMANCE   IMPROVEMENT   GUARANTEED

We all want to get faster and more efficient on our bikes. Many of us attack these goals by spending every possible hour in the saddle. We log our miles, brag about last weekend's long ride, and our initial success is welcomed with open arms.  Then the infamous plateau hits, or worse, your friends are getting faster but you are struggling to stay in the pack.

Years ago world-class competitors brought the success of heart rate training to the forefront.  Amateur athletes of all disciplines (running, cycling, triathlon, etc.) were quickly drawn to heart rate training.  However, this training tool only provides a small amount of somewhat inconsistent information.  Lack of sleep, altitude, weather, the menstrual cycle and this morning’s double shot cappuccino can speed it up or slow it down.  Most importantly, there’s a lag time for you heart rate to respond to your effort, so you could be two-thirds of the way through an interval before your heart gives you an indication of how hard you’re working.

Today’s professional cyclists now utilize power meters located typically at the crank or rear wheel to measure output in watts.  The changes in effort are displayed instantly. Power based training focuses on measuring your intensity rather than your duration. Research has shown that when your training focuses on intensity, profound improvement occurs. So if you want to take time off the clock, climb those hills faster and easier, a power based training program is the answer.  So once again, amateurs can learn from the methodology used by elite athletes.

Although a power meter is ideal for optimal training, you don’t have to purchase a $3000.00 component in order to embrace power-based training.  Through the use of our CompuTrainer Lab, you can enrol in a custom training program that systematically increases your power on the bike.
